Spring has officially sprung! As the seasons change, my team and I are celebrating the end of a busy exemptions awareness campaign. During the month of February, we hosted extended office hours and neighborhood filing opportunities throughout Leon County to educate homeowners about the annual March 1 exemption filing deadline. It was a pleasure to be out in the community helping taxpayers save on their property taxes.

As your elected property appraiser, I value the opportunity to advocate for cost-saving measures that help our community’s most vulnerable citizens stay afloat in challenging economic times. I was proud to work with Sen. Corey Simon and Rep. Allison Tant during this year’s legislative session to support a proposed constitutional amendment that would have extended property tax savings to the surviving spouse of a quadriplegic. While that measure did not pass this year, I joined my colleagues from around the state to advocate on behalf of numerous legislative initiatives that will improve the property tax assessment process for Floridians.

The CEAA award is in recognition of utilizing best appraisal and assessment practices. In 2012, our office became the 11th jurisdiction nationally to earn the certificate since the inception of the program, and the 8th jurisdiction in Florida. The office was recertified in 2018.
