Homestead Exemption Application Instructions

In order to qualify for 2008 Homestead Exemption you must own and establish your permanent residence on the property prior to January 1, 2008. 

Please complete the form as follows:

• Property Identification Number   Write in your identification number.  (Please refer to your tax bill or (search our database by owner or location).  If you do not have a property identification number, please indicate the legal description of the property.
• Applicant/Co-applicant Name and Address    Write in the owner(s) name(s) and mailing address.  (search our database).
• Exemptions   Please check a box to indicate the type of exemption for which you are applying.
• Applicant/Co-applicant Social Security Number(s)   Write in your Social Security Number(s) for all applicants.  Disclosure of this information is required by Florida Statute 196.011(1).
• Marital Status/Previous Year Exemption Information   Please check your marital status and whether or not you filed for homestead exemption last year.  If exemptions were filed, please indicate the address, county and state in which the exemptions were received.  If no exemptions were filed for the previous year, enter your last year’s address.
• Ownership Information   Please complete this area to include the date of your deed, the date it was recorded in Leon County and the Official Record Book and Page Number where the deed is recorded.


• Proof of Residence for owners   Please complete this section and provide the documentation listed below.  You must provide copies (front and back) of the following documentation:
Florida Driver License or, if you do not drive, a Florida Identification Card or a declaration of domicile recorded prior to January 1, 2008;
Florida Vehicle Registration, for all vehicles owned by you;
Leon County Voter Registration Card, if you are registered to vote;
Social Security Number for all applicants.  Please provide a copy of your card(s) or some other document with your number.  Social Security Number is required for the spouse of each applicant even if said spouse has no ownership interest;
If not a U.S. citizen, a Resident Alien Card (“Green Card”);
If property is in trust, a copy of the complete trust agreement or a recorded Memorandum of Trust;

 The deadline for filing for homestead exemption is March 1.  Please submit the signed, dated application and the required documentation to:
