Notice of Proposed Property Taxes: What is it?

Your notice of proposed property taxes is also known as your TRIM notice, which stands for “truth in millage.” This statutorily required notice is mailed to all property owners annually.

  • Please review your TRIM notice carefully. Although the notice states, “This is not a bill”, it reflects what your property taxes are likely to be on your November tax bill.
  • The TRIM notice contains a large amount of information that may seem complicated. Please refer to our “TRIM Notice Explained” for a detailed explanation.
  • For questions related to Property Values, Assessment Reductions and Property Tax Exemptions, please contact our office.
  • For questions related to Tax Rates, Property Taxes and Non-Ad Valorem Assessments, please contact the appropriate taxing authority.

Disaster Relief Credit for Homestead Properties

Owners of homestead property, damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Hermine, Matthew or Irma, may be eligible to receive a tax credit on a portion of their 2019 property taxes.

To qualify, the homestead property must have been uninhabitable for at least 30 days and affected owners must file a sworn application for Abatement of Taxes for Homestead Residential Improvements (DR-463) along with supporting documentation to the Property Appraiser.  If approved, the Property Appraiser will issue an official written statement to the Tax Collector, who will calculate and issue the credit. 

Applications may be submitted via mail, fax, email or in-person. The filing deadline is March 1, 2019.  For more information, see Section 197.318, Florida Statutes.



The Leon County Property Appraiser's Office has been awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration from the International Association of Assessing Officers.

The CEAA award is in recognition of utilizing best appraisal and assessment practices. In 2012, our office became the 11th jurisdiction nationally to earn the certificate since the inception of the program, and the 8th jurisdiction in Florida.

    I want to take a moment to tell you of a most amazing experience I had at your office today. Deanne Holder waited on me and my daughter, Kelley DiSalvo, as we were trying to make heads or tails of some small pieces of property that belonged to my deceased husband, John Pat Krause, and me. Some of the lots were in low land and one piece of property didn't even have an address, except the address of the next door neighbor. Deanne very, very patiently looked up each and every parcel and helped us see the adjoining property owners so we can contact them, where needed, and also take the necessary steps to finally dispose of the remaining lots. I can see that Deanne is a treasure to your office and the citizens of Leon County.

    on the way out of the building, my daughter and I were commenting on the wonderful service, when another one of your employees, Valencia Scott, kindly helped us with an email address where I could send this message. Thank you for your wisdom in hiring top notch employees!

    I just wanted to let you know how helpful Mike Nichols was in helping us through a complicated situation in a real estate transaction where a tax certificate had been sold on the subject property. He went above and beyond the call of duty, patiently explaining the situation separately to all three parties involved. The issue was resolved with his help and his response was excellent.
