As we close the chapter on 2021 and look forward to the new year, I want to recognize and thank my staff.

Our employees are known for their friendliness and helpful demeanor. They are already preparing for the 2022 assessments, and they work hard to ensure we provide fair and accurate appraisals.

I am particularly proud of their knowledge, training, and expertise. Our 51 employees average more than 12 years of experience each – ten have been here for more than 20 years – and together, they bring 574 years of experience! If you have the opportunity to interact with our office, we would love to hear about it. I think you’ll agree that we have a top-notch group.

This year I’m looking forward to working on our latest initiatives, including expanding our efiling options, updating our website, and publishing our first annual report. The report is nearly finished and will be sent to our mailing list and posted on our website later this month, so be on the lookout.

We are here if you need us, so don’t hesitate to reach out. I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful 2022!

  • File for your homestead exemption! This may save you hundreds of dollars each year. You can file online, just click here.
  • There are other exemptions that may save you money. Visit our Exemptions page for more details.
  • If you previously filed homestead within the state of Florida, you may be eligible for additional savings. When filing for your homestead exemption, remember to file a Portability application.
  • Get an estimate of your property taxes. Do not assume the taxes from the previous owner will be the same for you; a change in ownership may reset the assessed value to the full market value, this could result in higher property taxes. • Akin,

I have been in Leon Co government (Sheriff's office) for the past 23 years and the customer service I just experienced with my call to your office was A+ and the best I've seen.

Thank you for your help Curt.

  • Akin,

Curt Chisolm and Dan were very helpful answering my questions in reference to the calculation of the square footage of my home. Your office did exactly what they said they would do and were very prompt with all communication.

As a business owner, I really appreciate great customer service and was pleasantly surprised by these gentlemen and how they took care of my issue. I just wanted to say thank you for a job very well done!

  • Mr. Thomas,

As I stated on the phone, I really appreciate your politeness and your professionalism. I appreciate the fact that you answered my email very quickly so I didn't have to wonder whether you received it or not. You were very pleasant on the phone. You were polite and courteous.

This was my first time dealing with the Leon County Appraiser's Office and you put me at ease and made it a pleasant. Thank you, sir, for your service to me and to the residents of Leon County.

  • Leslie, Ken and Valencia,

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help today! And thank you for turning this around so quickly. Everything looks great. I hope you all have a great evening.

  • Good afternoon Ms. Scott,

It was such a pleasure meeting you at the Lenders' Consortium Home Buyer Class on March 18th. As I mentioned to you in our conversation, it's not often that you find someone with the customer service skills that you presented to the potential homebuyers. You came from a position of contribution which always makes the reception of the information better. As a resident of Leon, I was enlightened by a lot of the information you presented during this session. Keep up the good work! It's appreciated!!!

  • Dear Mr. Akinyemi:

I want to take a moment to tell you of a most amazing experience I had at your office today. Deanne Holder waited on me and my daughter, Kelley DiSalvo, as we were trying to make heads or tails of some small pieces of property that belonged to my deceased husband, John Pat Krause, and me. Some of the lots were in low land and one piece of property didn't even have an address, except the address of the next door neighbor. Deanne very, very patiently looked up each and every parcel and helped us see the adjoining property owners so we can contact them, where needed, and also take the necessary steps to finally dispose of the remaining lots. I can see that Deanne is a treasure to your office and the citizens of Leon County.

on the way out of the building, my daughter and I were commenting on the wonderful service, when another one of your employees, Valencia Scott, kindly helped us with an email address where I could send this message. Thank you for your wisdom in hiring top notch employees!

  • Dear Mr. Akinyemi:

I just wanted to let you know how helpful Mike Nichols was in helping us through a complicated situation in a real estate transaction where a tax certificate had been sold on the subject property. He went above and beyond the call of duty, patiently explaining the situation separately to all three parties involved. The issue was resolved with his help and his response was excellent.

Thank you for running such a great office.

  • Good morning Akin! Idk how closely you work with the staff, but I called up to your office this morning and spoke with a Brett and he was OUTSTANDING! The knowledge and customer service was just wonderful.... especially on a gloomy Monday morning. If you know him, please share my gratitude for his service today.

  • Mr. Akinyemi

I am very grateful for the informative response I received from Ms. Poskey. I was lost without the information she provided.

  • Mr. Akinyemi

I just wanted her superiors to know how patient, kind and helpful she was with me. I’m feeling poorly this morning and have a hard time hearing, I was so stressed. So many times, people aren’t courteous and don’t give the service they should, but she was so patient with me and so helpful. She was superb and so was her service.

  • Char,

Chari, Thank you so much for that amazingly FAST turn around! You are awesome!! (I wish all government was that efficient lol.)

  • Akin,

Please be advised that I had the most satisfying experience with your worker Monet'. She was extremely helpful, polite, and courteous. She was very attentive to my specific needs and offered a simplistic explanation to a hard to understand process. I want to make sure that you are aware of the talent that you have on your team. I feel tons better about understanding my situation after talking to her. Not happy with the outcome but pleased that she was able to help me understand this process.

  • So nice and kind!!! Wish everyone I dealt with was so thorough and punctual.

    Luis M.
